China launched spacecraft Shenzhou-18 on Thursday (April 25) to send three astronauts into low-Earth orbit in the country’s 13th crewed mission to space, marking more than two decades of Chinese human spaceflight.

A Long March-2F rocket carrying the Shenzhou-18 spacecraft, which means /”Divine Vessel/” in Chinese, blasted off from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the northwestern province of Gansu.

The latest Shenzhou-18 mission to the space station will be led by Ye Guangfu with two other astronauts Li Cong and Li Guangsu.

The Shenzhou-18 astronauts will replace the Shenzhou-17 crew, who arrived at Tiangong Space Station at the end of October. The Shenzhou-17 crew, consisting of astronaut Tang Hongbo, Tang Shengjie and Jiang Xinlin, is scheduled to return to earth on April 30. -Report from Reuters
